Pull the attacker’s right arm across your body to your left hip as you lower your weight to the ground, causing the attacker to fall

Other Information

Early influences of Tang Soo Do

Grandmaster Hwang Kee’s development of Tang Soo Do was influenced by three martial arts. Taekkyon, Karate and Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu).

International Taekwondo

International Taekwondo is the martial arts organization that brought us Yul Gok and Chung Mu. Grandmaster Blackburn held a 2nd degree blackbelt in this organization.

Shotokan

Shotokan is the name given to Gichin Funakoshi’s specific style of Karate. “Shoto” was a pen name for Gichin Funakoshi. “Kan” means house or place. So, Shotokan is the place where Shoto’s style is taught.

Jujutsu

“Achievement through great effort.” Kung Fu is used as an umbrella term for all martial arts of Chinese origin.

Judo

“Gentle Art.” Jujutsu is an ancient Japanese martial art and a precursor to Judo, Aikido and Brazilian Jiujitsu. Jujutsu was originally taught to Samurai as a method of unarmed combat. Since striking is ineffective against an opponent wearing armor, many throws, locks and controlling techniques were taught in Jujutsu

Budo

Meaning, “Martial Way” in Japanese, Budo a general term for all traditional martial arts. Do means "way of life". Modern budo has no external enemy, only the internal enemy, one's ego that must be controlled.
